Scratch Coding Lesson Plan 6th Grade

1. GETTING STARTED: CREATE YOUR ACCOUNT

Click this link and join our class.  This link makes a new account, you should only click this link ONCE.

WRITE DOWN YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD.

Don't use your real name in your username!

 

After you make your account use THIS LINK to log in ---->   https://scratch.mit.edu/

2. TURN-IN DOCUMENT - Open this document in your google drive, and MAKE A COPY.  Write your name on that document and use it to upload to the Canvas assignment when you’re all done.

3.  - TUTORIALS:

  • Click “Create”

  • Click “Tutorials”  

  • Complete the first 10 tutorials. THIS IS WORTH 10 POINTS. Yes, this will take you a couple of days to complete, but by the time you are done you should have the skills you need to create your own video game.

 

4.  Share the results of your tutorial “Chase Game” and "Pong Game” by copying the link to your Turn in Document.

It’s ok if it has some bugs, glitches or doesn’t behave perfectly.

4  Advanced

  • Game works

  • Game has several custom sprites made by you with Piskel

  • Custom background

  • Beep-box music soundtrack created by you

  • A recorded voice over

  • Sound effects

3 Proficient

  • Game works with minimal glitches

  • Game has a custom sprite 

  • Custom background

  • Sound effects

2 Approaching

  • Game is very glitchy or does not work

  • Minimal custom artwork

  • Minimal sound

1 Emerging

  • Game is not finished and does not work. 

  • Little to no work done.

SHARE your game by clicking the orange share button, then COPY THE LINK and paste it into your TURN-IN DOCUMENT.  Upload that document to Canvas.

 

ADVANCED SCRATCH

Create your own ORIGINAL video game.  

Use the skills you learned in the previous assignments to design and make your own video game.

 

Here are the grading criteria:

1. Your game must begin with a screen of instructions after clicking the green flag, free of typos, spelling and grammatical errors. The player should be able to sit down and play your game without any verbal instructions from you, the game-designer.

 

2.  Have some type of point-scoring system. Or, if not points, then have some kind of alternative like a limited number of lives, or chances to succeed, etc.

 

3. Have at least two distinct levels.  The backdrops, sprites, and challenges must change for each level.

 

4.  An ultimate goal or end screen once the player has succeeded.  DO NOT have an end-goal of simply trying to achieve the highest score.  Instead, have a concrete goal such as; beat the Boss-Monster, beat the timer, score over a certain amount of points, make it through a certain number of levels (3 or more), etc.

 

5. An ultimate end screen once the player has failed.

 

6. Audio:  Include Sound effects, original voice recording(s), and music.

 

7. The game must be your own original work.

To earn an “A” - do all of the above and create your own sprites

To earn a “B” - meet at least 6 of the 7 criteria above and create your own sprites (or import a jpg and edit it to make it your own), or meet all 7 criteria but don’t create your own sprites.
